The M'HAMID Dunes
The DAR AZAWAD hotel is located in the M'hamid palm grove, at the end of the road and beginning of the Saharan dunes. Less than 400 meters (437 yards) away from DAR AZAWAD, there are the first dunes of Erg LIHOUDI or the Jew's dune in reference to a Jewish hermit, who used to live there. The dunes are gorgeous, gentle and smooth. They make the perfect setting for a 1-hour-long dromedary trek at sunset or a quad ride.
If you keep walking for an hour or so deeper into the Erg, you will come to a much more impressive dune field. The dunes there are unvegetated and perfect for a nice shooting session.
